Did You Celebrate World Soil Day?
Need to Know
- December 5th is World Soil Day.
- Soil is the reason for that wonderful earthy smell after a chilly spring rain, home to many cute critters, and foundational to a healthy plant.
- Salvia promote a healthy soil ecosystem with their hardy roots.
In celebration of World Soil Day, which was December 5, we have two wonderful recommendations for your garden.

Salvia Blue by You Salvia Rose Marvel
Introduce Salvia to Your Gardens
This week, we’re ‘worming’ our way into all things Salvia. Two of my favorite Salvia that look lovely in any garden and bring all the benefits to your soil ecosystem are Salvia Blue By You and Salvia Rose Marvel! These two award winners are the perfect addition to any garden, and each possess their own unique features.
Rose Marvel is a show-stopping perennial with beautiful bright pink blooms that will brighten up any spot. These blooms, in fact, are some of the largest flowers of any rose hued Salvia nemorosa! When it comes to Salvia Blue By You, this sterile and non-invasive perennial has a repeat bloom cycle, up to 5 times, from early spring into autumn. This incredible plant also has an earlier bloom time, up to two weeks, from other Salvias of its species. Additionally, with the unpredictability in our ever-changing environment, Blue By You is up to the challenge with its dual heat- and frost tolerance. No wonder it is called a Better Version!
Overall, these Salvias bring the flower power to any garden along with hummingbirds and bees. As long-lived perennials, both promote a healthy soil ecosystem with their hardy roots, which prevent soil erosion and improve the structure of the soil. In addition, these plants are deer resistant!
