Coreopsis UpTick wins prestigious Four Oaks award in UK

Mike Klopmeyer
Former Darwin Perennials General Manager

The new UpTick™ series of large-flowered, long-blooming coreopsis recently had its debut at Four Oaks Trade Show in the UK and took the award for Best New Nursery Stock Plant Introduction. The judges were impressed with the “continual flowering, good habit, shape and flower size” of this new coreopsis variety.

Coreopsis UpTick produces characteristic jumbo flowers with a distinctive colored eye on three of the varieties. Bred with both the grower and gardener in mind, these perennial coreopsis are short and tidy, easy to grow and transport, early blooming, and without a doubt will provide flowers at retail and in the garden bed (it does not require vernalization). In production trials we have noticed how well UpTick fills out in 1-gal pots after transplant and stays naturally short without the need for plant growth regulators.

While many coreopsis (“tickseed”) varieties can grow in a range of habits with small-size flowers, UpTick grows in a tidy, mounded habit with impressively large blooms. It also features great mildew tolerance and is a great pollinator plant.

UpTick flowers from May through September with a garden height of 12-14 in. and is available in four eye-catching colors for 2017: Cream, Cream & Red, Gold & Bronze and Yellow & Red.
