Darwin Perennials Day 2025 Recap

In case you missed it or just want to relive it – Darwin Perennials Day did not disappoint!

Hummingbird display with candy jars

Over 600 people were registered to attend this year along with 28 suppliers! This year was extra special since we held our Ball Seed Sales meeting the same week and nearly all the Ball Reps were in attendance.

Some highlights of the day…

Our entrance display showcasing our NEW Penstemon and incorporating a candy display was a sweet winner! Penstemon is like candy for hummingbirds! Penstemon Rock Candy®, Mountain Treats™, and Summit Sweets™ ranging from compact, medium and tall in size, are the perfect line-up to create a retail hummingbird/pollinator display in any store.

Outdoor flower display

The perennial trial gardens of course also stole the show. Our Spring and early-Summer varieties were in full bloom including some of our newest additions, Coreopsis Sunfetti Yellow Bicolor and Rudbeckia Suntacular. There was also a new cut flower bed with Dave Dowling, the cut flower expert offering tips and advice.

The New Variety showcase was also well attended. This year we changed the requirements. It was available to anyone who had added anything new to their 2026 program. This opened up the showcase to others and not just breeders.

Our panel of experts also received a big round of applause when they talked about “Stop Stressing about Perennial Production.” The audience took a keen interest in the discussion and had their own list of questions for the panel.

And finally, the weather… The rain held off until after lunch, which was ideal, as it allowed most guests to accomplish everything on their agenda. Please save the date for next year! Darwin Perennials Day June 17, 2026!

The best Perennial event in the Midwest and beyond! I look forward to it every year, and the trial gardens are always a treat to see.
