19 Perennial Trial Beds at Darwin Perennials Day
It will be here before you know it! Darwin Perennials Day – my favorite Summertime event of the year.

This year, I am ordering cool weather, no rain, and temps in the mid-70’s, so make sure you join us for the biggest day in perennials! Stroll through the 19 perennial garden beds while being serenaded by our harpist and violinist. A truly zen moment to experience.
Talking about our beautiful perennial beds, you might be wondering how do these garden beds actually come to be? The answer: Some plants are overwintered to determine their hardiness and vigor while other beds are turned over and planted with new and existing varieties.
The decisions start as early as August. We sit down as a group and determine what should be kept and changed. What should be a new bed theme such as a Penstemon comparison bed, or how about a cut flower bed? Both of these beds will be happening this year and Dave Dowling, the cut flower expert will be on hand to answer questions, etc.
The ordering starts in October and the plants are grown in West Chicago – some starting as soon as early January. By mid-May, the grow-outs are completed, and the real fun begins. The planting season! The beds are carefully tended to and planted according to plan. In a few weeks some begin to bloom, and the magic starts to happen. The bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators appear to feast on a bountiful banquet.
And you can be a part of this glorious experience. Don’t miss the magic at Darwin Perennials Day!
See Us at CAST25
We invite you to come see us at this year’s California Spring Trials. From Wednesday, March 26 to Friday, March 28, we’ll be in Santa Paula at CAST25. Registration is still available.

Summer/Fall Bulking
Don’t forget to order inputs that require vernalization to make sure you have enough time for summer/fall bulking. Some popular perennials benefit greatly with a prior year bulking and overwintering. Check them out here. Contact your favorite sales rep to place an order.
