UpTick is a top performer at Costa trials

Mike Klopmeyer
Former Darwin Perennials General Manager

We entered Coreopsis UpTick Gold & Bronze into the Costa garden trials in Miami this season, and they’ve had great things to say about its performance and appeal! Costa reported that UpTick Gold & Bronze was a top performer in their late-spring evaluation. (See Costa’s full results here.) It trialed as an excellent performer in late-January through early-July, which is AMAZING since it is so hot in Florida where most plants (annuals and perennials) suffer immensely. Flowering of this crop in January is unusual since most coreopsis require longer days to flower, so UpTick’s claim for continuous flowering without cycling is supported through the Costa trials!

These plants were finished in production in South Florida without the long day flowering by the grower and are in flower during short days of December and January. No PGRs were needed. This trait of UpTick makes it easy for growers to finish at any time of the year and opens up sales of coreopsis to April/May for most parts of the country with little effort or sophisticated growing techniques as when grown under long-day lighting.

The image below was taken at Costa in early July. Notice the continuous flowering and disease-free foliage.
