What a summer it has been! I finally made it out of town for a bit to visit some trials, but some of the best continues to be here in The Gardens at Ball in West Chicago.

Week 33

Dianthus Rockin’ series are rocking the border in the Kieft Seed bed at the Raker trials. Not caring about the heat and humidity.

Lavender Primavera is finishing beautifully in a container trial. Spanish Lavender in 10 weeks for fall programs? Who knew!? What an incredibly versatile lavender this is. (Planted Week 22)

Iberis Summer Snowdrift is the Energizer Bunny of Iberis! These have not been cut back but could have been for additional branching.

Nepeta Whispurr Blue is not one of those cute little nepetas. This one has HUGE flowers and is purrrfect for the landscape.

Week 34

Phlox Super Ka-Pow Lavender A new series from Darwin that will burn up the Flames (along with Ka-Pow). Superior mildew resistance, branching and flower size! These are part of our large comparison trial planted this year. Looking forward to learning much about these year two.

Salvia Blue By You I shared pictures earlier in the season of this comparison to May Night. Here they are cut back and re-flushing. Or, at least one of them is. This is truly a “May Night Improved” Salvia!

Until next time… See you in the Gardens!
