Notes from the road: Summer color!

During trials visits during July and August I observed fantastic summer color in the West Grove, Pa., trial gardens. Here’s some of my top picks:

This cart picture (above-left) is a sneak-peek at the Darwin Perennials culture trials we have executed at West Grove, Pa. It’s a freshly produced cart full of color and Lavender SuperBlue ready to ship IN AUGUST! Guess what? We can do this for Sept. 1 as well. Fall is for planting Darwin Perennials! These containers of Lavender SuperBlue (above-right) were planted June 29 from 72-cell liners.

This was an over-wintered plot of Heliopsis Sunstruck at the Raker’s trial gardens (Litchfield, Mich.) It was planted in 2015. Super bright summer color ... and it’s not blue!

We’ve looked at Perovskia trials all over the country. Trial after trial, Darwin Perennials’ Crazy Blue is performing great. The stems of the plant criss-cross each other and eliminate the splitting we see in almost all Perovskia in the gardens. Be sure to look at the nice trade-gallons that were produced for Cultivate16 in the corner.

Sneak-peek of Culture Trials at West Grove: We are working on the culture trial results of the container trials very soon. Watch for our summary soon!
